El Hornillo
This town is situated at less than one mile from the guesthouse. It has an extraordinary free of charge natural swimming pool and pool of water for your enjoyment. Their traditional celebrations are on April 25th, on December 27th (the Feast of Saint John) and on August 15th, the Cherry Blossom Festival.
Two other charming towns, El Arenal and Guisando are less than 2 and 4 miles away.
These three towns are of quite historic similarity thanks to their situation, built on the south side of the Gredos Ridge. Their traditional homes are built with stone, adobo bricks and wood in a setting of steep streets and alleys giving them a very special atmosphere. The people are merry and hospitable. On festive days, they dress up to the hilt.
Arenas de San Pedro
This beautiful village is only 3 miles away. Among its historical sites are:
Triste Condesa Castle, El Palacio del Infante Don Luis de Borbon (brother of Charles the 3rd). The parish of "Nuestra Senora Del Pilar" in gothic style. and The Sanctuary of San Pedro de Alcantara.
At 3km.(2 miles) from Arena, we find Ramacastanas con las Cuevas del Aguila (the Eagle's Caves) magnificent "grotto" with stalactites and stalagmites.
La Calzada Romana (the Roman Road) at Puerto del Pico is very well preserved. From its highest point we can enjoy a panoramic view of "Villas del Valle" and the ruins of the "Castro Celta" in "El Raso" from the 2nd century BC. There is more information available for our customers.
